D.9 Building a settlement

This topic is rather important, because a player should not just build anywhere he pleases - this because if you build too close to the enemy, you will have trouble to build, plus you will get atacked more often, being more vulnerable. Also, You should build a good amount of buildings, but sometimes it's better to build them not too close to eachother, or if you get atacked, some spells can destroy many of them - if they are split, spells like earthquake or volcano will probably be weaker. On the other hand, if you build them too splited, you waste room, and this is usually not recomendable in levels where you have a small terrain to fit you settlement in.

So, it basically depends on the level, where the opponent is, and what spells and buildings are avaliable. Let's take some examples:

- In the level "Face Off", each player owns a rather small base, so they usually build huts close to one another.

- In the level "Dead Sea", the players will probably build huts separately, as there is huge land to build on. This way, most spells will be less effective against buildings.

Also, it is important to see the resources you have. If there are many trees, it's ok to build freely. If there are few trees, you should maybe harvest or build less, at least at the start.

Another thing is the ratio of buildings on a settlement. Normally, you should have 1 training hut of each, and the rest huts. You should place the training huts on the safest spot of your settlement, else it will easily get destroyed by atacks from units and spells. Obviously, as the game goes, you can add extra training huts to focus on faster trooping. Let's take some examples:

- In the level "Pressure Point", a player will typically have one or two firewarrior huts, one or two warrior huts, and the rest (between ~20 and 30) huts. For defensive matters, towers will be built between your settlement and the enemy's.

- In the level "Sessrumnir Palace", you will only want one firewarrior hut and sometimes you might want to add a warrior hut. The rest will be normal huts ( near 15 or 16). In this map you also don't have that much trees, so harvesting would be a good option, as well as avoiding plans above trees as much as you can.

Finally, if the map is big enough, you should build other settlements. In big levels you can build an initial settlement near your CoR, and place a tower plan far away and start another settlement there. This is sometimes risky, but might pay off.
