THE POPULOUS BIBLE
F.9 Creating Ubers
Ubers are units with an abnormally high health. Because the damage an unit causes depends on its health, ubers cause a lot of damage, usually instantly killing enemy units. However, they die if thrown in the water, move into a swamp or are struck by lightning. Making ubers requires a considerable amount of effort and they are typically not cost-effective at all, except if the map is shaped in such a way that a suitable pit already exists - this because it takes time to do this trick, and is not that easy to be done.
Technically, when units are thrown into a small pit in Populous, they get stuck in there and roll. While rolling, they lose health. Eventually their health goes so low into the negatives that it rolls over to the highest possible value of health, then starts going down (while they’re still in the pit). However, their health will show up as zero while it’s in the negatives.
You’ll need to make a very small pit on the highest possible land height, then blast followers into it, and blast them out of it when their health is really high. (use the bird eye’s view – minus key, not on numpad – and right click them to check their health). Any unit can be a uber, even the shaman!
Ubers are similar to follower with bloodlust, minus some abilities (they can get preached, and are have not improved speed), and without the time limit. Ubers have many times the health of a normal follower, evident by the life far extending off the top of the screen. Since the physical strenght is related to the health level, they are way stronger too. One single warrior uber can kill many enemy warriors easily.
Now imagine what is having a uber warrior, with bloodlust and magical shield - the perfect unit!
Uber brave's health bar. The bar is so long that it won't fit in the camera! Because the strenght is related with the unit's health, this brave can survive longer and kill more. He alone would win many braves, and even warriors.
